Experience and Insight

People have asked what work I did on the pilgrimage, meaning, I think, what efforts I made to use the experience to gain clearer insight into myself or my relationships or the world.  Some of us talked about this a couple of nights before the end of the walk.  One woman said, "I expected to have these insightful thoughts on the camino, but instead I mostly thought about just putting one foot down in front of the other."  There's something to this -- it takes a certain amount of energy (besides some intention) to make meaning out of experience. Profound experience doesn't necessarily lead to profound insight.  Also, insight comes in different ways, sometimes gradually and delayed, long after experience -- probably needing the chemistry of mixture with other experience/discussion.

This is sort of a preface to my blog -- and probably sounds like a lame disclaimer, but take it for what it's worth.
